Scientists Build World's Most Powerful Laser

In Europe, government officials have approved a proposal that could lead to the creation of the world's most powerful laser. Announcement sounds a little scary, but do not worry, it will not hurt anyone. Instead, it will be used to help shed some light quantum mechanics of some of the more puzzling mysteries. The project was originally known as the extreme light infrastructure project involves three 10 petawatt laser particle acceleration, allowing scientists to better understand the atomic nature of the phenomenon of fast development. Results of these experiments may open the door for all grandaddy: Fourth of laser beam will be combined with the fire pulse package of up to 10 200 petawatts.
The researchers speculated that a large beam, the laser should be powerful enough to RIP in addition to the structure of the vacuum of space-time itself. "New Scientist" explains how to create a powerful ghost of laser particle effects can be observed:
  • The uncertainty principle of quantum mechanics means that empty space can not be true. On the contrary, random fluctuations in birth a boiling cauldron known as positrons, particles such as electrons and their antimatter counterparts.
  • These so-called "virtual particles", usually too quickly for us to destroy each other to inform them. However, physicists predicted in the 1930s, a very strong electric field will be converted into real ones, we can observe the virtual particles. To promote the field in the opposite direction, because they have the opposite charge, to separate them so that they can not destroy one. Laser is ideal for this task, because their light has a strong electric field.
The most reassuring part, although the pulse will be only a small part of last year, in fact, 1.5 × 10-14 seconds. Laser is expected to be in place by 2015, will be located in the Czech Republic, Hungary and Romania.
